Does American English influences other english varieties?

Hi!! i have to do an essay on the opinion of english natives about the influence of American English on other varieties like british, australian, etc. So do you think AmE is destroying national idientities? What's the role of media in this(especially tv)? Which are the main american words/expressions entered in common speech?
