Soviet/Lenin's policy on Poland? History?
Lenin had a big problem with the poles and soon after WW1 the polish-soviet war had broken out. Lenin did not recognize the statehood of Poland. The recreation of a polish state left not only the Russians bitter but also the Germans and the Ukrainians pitted against the newly formed polish republic. The new and largely unorganized governments of soviet Russia and soviet Ukraine declared war on Poland in February 1919. The war lasted roughly 2 years and ended with Poland winning the war. The soviets had no choice but to recognize the new polish state, but Lenin remained completely opposed to polish independents until his death.
